Pregnancy Update

As usual I've been MIA.  Life has been fairly hectic and I have been utterly exhausted.  Blog has had to drop by the wayside a bit.

Squishy has swim four days a week at 8am, I watch a friend's 6 month old four days a week, and I pick up big kids from school five days a week.  Throw that in with being 17 and a half weeks pregnant and I am exhausted.  I have not slept past 7am in over a month and I don't think I've slept through the night in at least that long.  I need to be up by 7 for one reason or another every. single. day.

It's Official x2!

We are officially expecting baby #2 (aka Baby Burrito).  We've known for about six weeks now and I'll be ten weeks this Wednesday.  We ultimately decided to announce a little bit earlier with this one after a viability scare.  I decided that I would rather have the comfort of my family and friends than deal with any loss on my own.  Thankfully though everything is going great so far and it looks like we'll have another member of the family joining us around mid-April.  Meaning... we will very briefly have two under two.

7 week ultrasound.  Just a baby blob :)
All of this has come at the perfect time considering hubby just got a new job too.  With Amazon!  We still get to live in the same area and our income is going up by roughly 45% so we are feeling very thankful and blessed right now.  He'll start in October.

Now that things are settling down for us again I hope to have more time for posting!

Kids are So Honest

Squishy is 15 months today and we didn't have much to do so we went to the parks.

Shortly after we got there another mama showed up with a little guy who was probably about 3 and another boy who was probably a few months younger than Squishy.

Squishy's in a really friendly phase and she likes to say "HI!" and wave to everyone.

We were playing near the smaller kid structure and the 3 year old came over, I'll call him 3, and Squishy said Hi!

3 played around us for awhile and then had his mama put him in a swing next to his brother and she was pushing both the kids.

This was their conversation:
3: Last push mama.  I want to go play with that beautiful baby over there. (I swear he said that).
Mom: Okay.
3:  She's a nice baby.  She said Hi to me.
3 (Looking at his baby brother):  He's not a nice baby!
Mom (trying not to laugh): Why do you say that?
3: Because he BITES!

The mom was trying so hard not to laugh and so was I.  It was pretty priceless.

Happy 15 months Squishy!  Three year old boys think you're nice and beautiful :)

Trying

For the record: I debated as to whether or not I wanted to make this post.  I hemmed I hawed, but ultimately I decided I wanted to.  If only so that those close to me and who read this know why I'm a little preoccupied over the next few weeks or months (hopefully weeks).  Friends and family are not allowed to ask how this is coming along.  I'll announce when I see fit :)

We are officially trying for #2.

We decided to start about a week ago, just in time for this month.  We'll try for my July-September cycles and if it doesn't happen then we will wait until January.  Mainly because it's crazy hot here in the summer and I have no desire to be hugely pregnant in the summer and also we're planning around a family vacation that takes place in July.

Too Smart for Her Britches

Squishy is 14 months now and she's already too smart for her britches.  I've worked with kids for a long time.  I taught two year olds for a good portion of that time.  I'm used to sneaky kiddos.  I'm used to grumpy kiddos.  But heaven help me, I didn't know it could start so soon.  I have two quick stories to share (quick post before bed), that I think are hilarious and make me wonder what the teenage years will be like.

Gratuitous cake picture of my silly girl

1. Hubby has some little ninja toys he's had since he was in elementary school.  A few years back when I helped him clean his mom's house we rediscovered them and they came home with us.  For a long time they say on his desk at work but when he changed offices they found their way home and into some drawers that sit next to our computer desk. Squishy discovered them a few weeks ago but we've discouraged her playing with them as she shouldn't be going through the drawers.

How to Make a Diaper Wreath/I'm Back

I finally have a desktop again which means I can blog again!  I guess I could have blogged from my phone but that would have been silly and lame and for some reason my phone is kooky and I can never scroll on posts.  So, here I am.

And I come baring a cute tutorial.  I made this diaper wreath for a friend's baby shower back in April and I've been dying to share it with you but no computer + nowhere to put pictures the pictures I took = no tutorial until now.

The diaper wreath!

Sad Day

I knew this day was coming but it's still sad.  My laptop has officially died.  Im praying we can get some of my more important files off of it but we shall see. So posting may be sporadic for a bit until I can buy a new computer  I'll still be around though.

Confessions

This post is about to get serious so if you don't like that, now is your chance to walk away.

Over the next few months my goal in life is to get better.  What do I mean by that?  Well, I've battled an eating disorder on and off for the last 13 years or so.

Busy Weekend

We had such a busy weekend!  Almost nothing got done at the house, which isn't good since Squishy's first birthday is in less than 2 months, but we had fun nonetheless.

On Saturday I had my first ever vendor event as an Independent Scentsy Consultant.  I only found out about it a week beforehand so I had almost no stock on hand and all I knew was that it was going to be at a storage unit place.

Why Being an Only Child is Lame

I am an only child and sometimes it really sucks.  I know, I just burst your bubble people with siblings.  Sure there are those only children who didn't have to do chores because they were so precious and sure there are some who think they are special snowflakes.  BUT, that's probably not the norm.  This post is about realities.

I want to be clear that I don't begrudge my parents at all that I'm an only child.  They tried their hardest to give me a sibling.  It just wasn't in the cards apparently.  So this is in no way an attack on them.  It's more my rant as to why I refuse to let Squishy be an only child and why being an only child isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Two Posts in 1 Day?

Yes!  Too cute not to share.  Squishy's first nine months!  We decided early on that we wanted to chronicle her first year like this and when I found that sweet hippo picture at Costco I knew what I had to do.  Some months we've been in a little late, but we've still chronicled each month thus far. :)

Activities for an 8-12 Month Old

When I first had Squishy there wasn't much she could do other than sleep and eat obviously.  Now that she's 9 months we finally have stuff that we can do.   I know that sometimes I struggle with new things we can do so I thought I'd share what we do together and hopefully if you do something different with your little one you could share it in the comments!

Speed Round Update w/ a Photo Bomb!

Squishy is 9 months old!  Ahhh!  I can hardly believe it.  We are desperately trying to figure out what we're going to do for her first birthday.  Party at our house?  Party closer to family?  No big party?  I have no idea.

Updates and photobomb after the cut.

Goody QuikStyle Review

Oh my goodness, do I love Influenster.  Since I signed up in the fall I've been sent dish soap, Eboost, lip gloss, oatmeal, nail dressings, face masks and, my new favorite, a hair brush to try out for free.  I love it because as long as I try them out and review them (being 100% genuine), I can continue to receive stuff to try.  In fact, I did so well reviewing the dish soap a few months back that the company sent me free toothpaste, body wash, and hand soap (didn't even need to review it).

This past December I received my favorite product to date, the Goody QuikStyle brush.  I'd seen it a few times at Target and I was intrigued since it looked so funky but I was a little leery to shell out the money for something that may or may not work.

As you can see it looks kind of funky.
I received the round brush but it also comes as a paddle brush.  The goal of the brush is that your hair can dry more rapidly as the microfiber bristles help to suck the moisture out of your hair.  I was skeptical.  As it is, I rarely dry my hair since it's so long and there is so much of it, drying my hair typically takes nearly half an hour.  With a 9 month old, I rarely have that half an hour to spare.

Much to my surprise, when I first tried the brush is seemed to cut down on drying time.  I used it in conjunction with a blow dryer to dry my hair fairly straight.  (I still need a straightener no matter what since my naturally wavy/curly hair likes to frizz.)

So, for the sake of an accurate review on Saturday I used the brush and my dryer to see how long it took to dry my hair.  It took 15 minutes.  Half the time it normally takes.  Not too shabby when my hair is down to my chest.  After 15 minutes it was dry enough to safely use my hair straightener without having to worry about any moisture causing smoking.  Plus, it already got my hair somewhat straight so my straightener had less work to do.

I can honestly say I LOVE this brush.  The only downside is that it takes a little bit more effort to clean it than a regular brush as the microfiber bristles do make cleaning out the hair a little more difficult.  This brush is worth the money.  I'm thinking of adding the paddle brush to my collection as well.

Disclaimer: In case you skipped over the top, I did receive this product for free from Influenster in my 2012 Holiday Voxbox.  However, my reviews are 100% genuine and I don't get special treatment for favorable reviews.  If you have any questions about Influenster and how to become one, feel free to leave a comment and I'll fill you in.

A Woman Who Couldn't Breastfeed

Today is Milk Day.  Apparently, on January 11th, 1878 milk was delivered in glass bottles for the very first time.  In honor of such an auspicious occasion a baby food company that I've "liked" on facebook posted one of those obnoxious ecards.  This one featured a mother gently cradling her smiling baby while the tagline read "My mommy makes milk.  What's your super power?"  I cringed.

First, let me say I do agree that breast is best.  Breast milk is free.  It's portable.  It helps build the baby's immune system.  And, although breastfeeding in itself isn't easy for many mamas it is an easy (faster) way to calm a crying baby.
