Halloween Nails w/ a Twist

I did some Halloween nails in honor of our trip to the pumpkin patch!

I didn't take the time to clean up the edges but they are Pros and Bronze from OPI with a Sally Hansen black as the tips and the accent nail.  The twist you ask?  All of the black was covered with glow in the dark polish!

It's insanely hard to take a picture of glow in the dark polish but I did my best.

Pumpkin Patch!

We took Squishy to the pumpkin patch today.  Hubby loves, loves, LOVES Halloween so we went opening day and picked out three pumpkins that we'll carve closer to Halloween itself.

We hit up a new patch that opened last year.  It had a pond with beautiful landscaping, a straw maze, a corn maze, a haunted mine, some cool critters, bounce houses, a tree house, and, our favorite, picking pumpkins off the vine.

We passed on most of the extra stuff what with having a 4 month old and all.  Plus it was fairly sunny and warm; but, we did check out a lot of stuff.

Squishy's First Swim & a Photo Shoot!

Have you heard of "Trash the Dress" photo shoots?  The general idea is that when a woman gets married she gets this beautiful white wedding dress that is in perfect condition; but, as life goes on we may have kids, may get divorced, and as time goes on life becomes more chaotic and doesn't stay white and shiny.  These photo shoots aren't some revenge against exes or something out of anger, rather it's a fun way to celebrate life and have a blast with that dress you spent a ton on.

A friend of mine has been doing a number of these shoots in the hope that he'll publish a book with them and this past weekend a girl friend of mine was the subject of a shoot and we went to help out.  Me, hubby, Squishy, the model, her son, and the photographer all headed out to a house boat owned by the girl who was modeling the dress.

Daddy and Squishy!

The photo shoot was a blast and the photographer was able to get pictures of her going down the water slide off the boat, in the hot tub on the boat, in the mud on the shore, jumping off the speed boat, and even wake boarding in her dress after we cut it off at the knees.

Paint Splatter Nails w/ Quick Tutorial!

I have had a very strange love of paint splatter for years now.  When I bought a junky desk last year I immediately painted it purple and then took it in the drive way and splattered some neon paint all over it.  If it wouldn't make a giant mess, I'd probably paint a wall of the house that way too; but, alas, it would so I settled for doing my nails.

Munchy Monday: Zucchini Bread

Yes, yes I'm aware it's no longer Monday; but, I made the bread on Monday so it counts :)

For the past few months hubby and I have been getting a fresh produce (primarily veggie) box once a week.  It's been interesting trying to come up with ways to use the produce and some weeks we are better at it than others.  This past Tuesday we got two zucchinis in our box so I decided to give some zucchini bread a try.

I modified a recipe I found to make it my own and it turned out ahh-mazing.  I highly recommend you make it.  Unfortunately, I didn't even think of the blog as I made it so you only get a picture of the finished product and the recipe this week.

Book Review Time!

When I had Squishy I had been reading the complete Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series and although I loved the books, it too me forever to read them and I only finished about two weeks ago.  Needless to say, I was so very ready for something new and my hubby picked In the Sanctuary of Outcasts by Neil White.

**Yes my husband picks my books.  We have so very many that I can never choose so he picks for me and I pick for him.  We like to alternate fiction with nonfiction so we learn something too.**

I devoured it.  There is no other word for it.  I finished it in less than 48 hours and keep in mind I have a 4 month old so that's no small feat.

My Child is Skippy Jon Jones

If you don't know who Skippy is, you have my sympathies.  He is the coolest Siamese-cat-fronting-as-a-Chiuahua the world has ever seen.

He looks like this
Skippy likes to say his head is too big for his body and this is just like Squishy.  Well, technically it's not too big according to the doctor; but, it's probably contributing to her lack of rolling.

She weighs 15 pounds 11 ounces (79th percentile) which is a gain of almost 9 pounds since birth.
Her height is 24 inches (29th percentile) which is a growth of 5 inches since birth.
& I don't remember her head measurement but it's in the 85th percentile.

Yup, my child has a big head.  I have a theory that it just means Squishy has more room for an awesome brain.  At least she doesn't look disproportional and she does have great head control.  I just think it's hilarious. You'd think it would be more in line with her height.

Cookies & Cream Cupcakes

So I made some very delicious Cookies & Cream cupcakes last night and I thought I'd share my recipe with you.  Heads up these cupcakes are really dense.  I like these ones like that; but, if you don't, modify the recipe accordingly.

  • 1/3 of a regular package of oreos crushed
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.75 tsp. baking powder

Squishy's First Trip to the Boonies

What's the boonies you ask?  It's my family's cabin up in the forest.  It was built by my great-grandpa and is owned by my grandma and her sister and her brother.  In other words there are roughly 40 of us sharing the cabin.  It's beautiful, but scheduling is a lot harder these days.

Hubby and I haven't been since our first summer together in 2009 and that's way too long for my liking.  Growing up I went every summer, usually more than once.  We had wanted to take a long trip this year; but, it wasn't in the cards and so I ended up making a day run with Squishy, my mom, and my grandma.  My aunt and uncle were already there with my cousins so it was a partial family party of sorts.

Click the cut for a photo bomb. Warning: Squishy is sleeping in almost, or maybe all, photos due to long car ride.
