Setting a Healthy Example

When I first found out we were expecting a girl, I was shocked.  Both hubby and I had been sure we were having a boy.  I was of course excited; but, I also started thinking about all the things that come with being a girl.

One of the first things that came to mind is the body image issues many girls face.  Girls, from a very early age, are presented with images of how society thinks they should look.  Namely, thin and beautiful.  I can't change the images Squishy is presented with without sheltering her to a crazy person extent, so I made the decision early on that I wanted to set a good example for her.  A good example of how to take care of yourself and be happy with your body.

Here's the thing, I don't take good care of my body and I'm definitely not happy with it.

Squishy's First Weekend Trip (aka Why You Always Check the Number of Diapers in the Diaper Bag)

This weekend hubby and I took Squishy on her first weekend trip back to my hometown.  We live about a four to five hour drive from where I grew up.  The story goes, I went to college, I met a boy, we both got jobs in said college town, we got married, we bought a house near said college town, and then we had a squishy.

My entire family lives in the same area and since Squishy's grandparents and godmother have been the only people who have been able to meet her yet, we decided to make a trip north.  Plus, the fair was this weekend and as a former 4-H'er, I can't resist the fair.

Munchy Monday - Lasagna Roll Ups

Yes, I know it's not Monday as the title would lead you to believe; but, I woke up before six, drove 4 hours, and had a cranky, sick baby to contend with yesterday.  Forgive me :)  Anywho, what is Munchy Monday you ask?  I've decided that I'm sick of cooking and baking the same things over and over again.  Especially since I've found so many cool recipes via Pinterest and stumble upon.  So, for the summer (possibly longer) I've decided to challenge myself and try a new recipe every Monday and chronicle it here.  This week it was Lasagna Roll Ups courtesy of homemade by holman

Crayon Melt Art

Crayon melting art has been a Pinterest staple for months now.  I feel like I've seen it everywhere.  Heck, we went to a fair this weekend and there were three or four submitted in the art exhibit area.  That being said, the reason I've seen it everywhere is because it's AWESOME!

I knew I wanted to do something cool for my mom's birthday; but, with hospital bills from our recent addition of Squishy, I needed something that wouldn't break the bank.  I decided to peruse Pinterest for cool craft ideas and decided I wanted to do some crayon melting.  I particularly wanted to do the heart shaped crayon melting.  Unfortunately, every picture I clicked on to get a tutorial took me to an "untrusted website".  Finally, I stopped clicking and decided to just wing it.  So, although I really like to link to a source when I get an idea from somewhere, I won't be doing that this time just because I don't really have one other than those few pictures on Pinterest.  I'm sure if I kept clicking on the pictures I would have eventually found a good link; but, I didn't really want to risk my computer.  I'd love to thank whoever came up with the original concept though because it's awesome!

New Life, New Blog

I started my last blog as a happy-go-lucky newly wed whose biggest concerns involved getting in shape and baking yummy things.  Of course, those two things are still important to me; but, I felt like it was time for a new leaf for my newly changed life.  Thus, a new blog.

If you're following me from my old blog I still plan to cook, I still plan to share my struggles to get in shape, I do plan to share the occasional book review (though not for every book I read anymore), and I still plan to share parts of my life.  Now though, there is a Squishy in there too.  :)

Our daughter joined us in May of this year and we couldn't be happier.  It's changed our lives a lot.  My husband is now wrapped around a tiny finger.  I'm no longer working except for the rare occasion (Squishy comes with me) and I'm spending most of my time trying to figure out how to take care of a tiny person, 3 dogs, and a house.

I'd love for you to join me on this adventure and this new phase in my life.  I look forward to your comments and I hope to discover some more cool blogs along the way.
